It has always been an innate tendency of us humans to celebrate the beginnings and endings of chapters in our lives — birthdays, new years, weddings, graduations.
Last month, a week before we finally bid adieu to what has been our home for 4, maybe 5, perhaps even 6 years, a group of college seniors and I spent 3 days taking in the sights of Zambales — climbing, swimming, and camping.

We started the three day outing not knowing each other’s names, each other’s stories, and each other’s personal journeys throughout college. Thus, I was honestly (as TL) initially hesitant to have the climb push through.
A few days later, though, I was silently snickering and asking myself what I was too stressed about.
True, the trip didn’t go as smoothly as planned — the Zambales heat caused a lot of people to get dehydrated, the IT (or lack of a proper one) meant we would be trapped under the sun’s burning tutelage especially since we reached the summit a few minutes shy of 12 PM, and the lack of lighting and other people in Capones Island meant that we would have to patrol the entire night especially since sea snakes were usual visitors. Looking back, though, I guess I believe that if none of those happened, we wouldn’t have been able to say goodbye to college with such a bang.

And while we all went up the stage on the 28th and the 29th of March 2014 three shades darker and with peeling skin, I know our smiles were enough to bedazzle the audience.
But most of all, I know our smiles made them realize that we just had the time of our lives.
Happy graduation to Batch 2014.
